How to shorten your Timex watch strap – no tools needed

Want a better fit for your Timex watch? Good news: if your strap looks like the one in this video, adjusting it is incredibly easy — and you won’t need any tools at all.

Quick step-by-step

Turn your watch over: Flip the watch to see the back of the metal strap.
Slide the link tab open: Use your fingernail to lift the tiny metal tab on one of the links. It opens like a flap — no screwdriver needed.
Detach the link: Once the flap is open, simply unhook the link from the next one.
Remove more links if needed: Repeat the process until the strap is the right length.
Close the link tab: Hook the remaining links back together and press the flap shut. Done!

Important note on other Timex straps

Not all Timex watches use this convenient click-system. Some models — particularly those with solid metal links, pins, or expansion-style straps — require a different method for adjustment. In those cases, you’ll need a strap adjustment tool to safely remove links or resize the strap without damaging it.
