A classic G-SHOCK with hands? Absolutely! Casio has given the design of its original digital sports watch a surprising new twist. The new Casio G-SHOCK GMC-2500 and GAC-2500 combine the recognisable shapes of the very first G-SHOCK from 1983 with an analogue time display. And that distinctive little window next to the hands? There’s more to it than meets the eye. These new G-SHOCK watches prove that a familiar design can still hold plenty of surprises!
For the new G-SHOCK GMC-2500 and GAC-2500, Casio looked back to a key moment in its own history. It was in 1983 that the Casio G-SHOCK DW-5000C was launched – the first watch in what has since become the world-famous G-SHOCK collection.
That original G-SHOCK was a digital sports watch with a strikingly robust construction. A design that has since become a true classic.
With the new GMC-2500 and GAC-2500, Casio takes that recognisable foundation as its starting point, yet there is something entirely different about these watches. The design has taken on a completely different look.
The case has softer, rounder lines – that’s one difference. But what stands out most is that the digital time display has been replaced by analogue hands. This gives these G-SHOCK watches a slightly more understated look, whilst retaining their sporty character.
As far as we’re concerned, that’s precisely what makes the design interesting. You immediately recognise the G-SHOCK family; in that respect, these new models fit in well with the Solar-Powered range.

It’s a welcome development for fans of classic G-SHOCK watches who still prefer to read the time on a dial with hands rather than digital digits. You don’t compromise on the recognisable look, yet you’re wearing a completely different kind of Casio watch.
At first glance, it looks like an ordinary date window. But if you take a closer look at the dial, you’ll discover that Casio has come up with something special.
At the 3 o’clock position is the so-called Multi-Mission Date window. This consists of three small compartments that can be used for various functions – not just for the date.
For example, the window can display the date, but also information on elapsed stopwatch minutes or specific settings.
That’s a clever idea. Casio uses the limited space on the dial to make several types of information clearly visible, without having to add a large digital display straight away.
The automatic calendar is also handy. Once you’ve set the correct year, month and day, the watch keeps track of the date automatically.
The stopwatch function allows you to measure elapsed time. This is useful, for example, during sporting activities, training sessions or simply when you want to know how long something takes.
Are you particularly interested in that time-measuring function? Then do take a look at our chronograph watches.
A chronograph is a watch that allows you to measure elapsed time as well as the current time. The way this information is displayed varies from model to model. In this new G-SHOCK series, the multifunctional window plays a prominent role in this respect.
G-SHOCK watches are, of course, renowned for their shock-resistant construction. With the new GMC-2500-1A, Casio has also paid particular attention to the hands.
According to Casio, the minute hand is secured by magnetic force. This allows the hand to temporarily shift position in the event of a hard shock without this necessarily leading to damage.
Casio states that, following such an impact, the minute hand can automatically return to its correct position within a few minutes.
A clever solution for a sports watch in which the analogue time display forms such an important part of the design.
The small seconds hand also has a special function. You can pause it when you don’t need it.
Temporarily stopping the second hand reduces energy consumption. A practical addition that contributes to more efficient use of the watch.
These are the sort of technical details you don’t immediately notice when you first see the watch. But it is precisely through these that Casio demonstrates that there is still a great deal of clever technology hidden behind the familiar G-SHOCK design.

With a G-SHOCK, you naturally expect a sturdy case. Nevertheless, it’s interesting to look at the exact dimensions and weight as well, as Casio has managed to keep these well within reasonable limits for these models.
The Casio G-SHOCK GMC-2500-1A has the following dimensions:
The combination of plastic and stainless steel gives it a robust look, whilst keeping the weight relatively low at 68 grams.
The case thickness of 12.9 mm is also worth noting. This means this G-SHOCK is not excessively thick for a sports watch with a sturdy construction.
It’s certainly handy to be able to read your watch in the dark. Casio has fitted the GMC-2500-1A with LED lighting. This allows you to read the dial even in low light.
This is handy when you’re setting off early, exercising in the evening or simply want to know what time it is in the dark.
Tip! Are you looking for a sturdy watch for everyday use? When comparing Men's watches, don’t just look at the case diameter, but also at the thickness, length and weight.
Together, these features play a major role in determining how a watch feels on your wrist.
Casio officially announced the new G-SHOCK GMC-2500 and GAC-2500 on 22 October 2026.
According to the European press release, the new models will be available in shops and via the official Casio webshop from 7 November 2026.
Casio is thus expanding the G-SHOCK collection with models that combine the recognisable design of the original DW-5000C with a modern analogue time display.
The Multi-Mission Date window and the distinctive construction of the minute hand make this launch particularly interesting.
And, of course, the key question remains: do you prefer a classic digital G-SHOCK, or does this new analogue version appeal to you more?
With the Casio G-SHOCK GMC-2500 and GAC-2500, Casio demonstrates that a classic watch design can still be surprising even after more than forty years.
The new models combine the recognisable shapes of the original G-SHOCK with an analogue dial and clever details. The multifunctional Multi-Mission Date window and the shock-resistant construction of the minute hand on the GMC-2500-1A are particularly noteworthy.
