The Zeppelin 9664-4 Méditerranée combines a petrol-coloured dial with gold-coloured numerals and a cognac-coloured leather strap. A striking colour combination within an otherwise rather classic design. And, very handy: this watch displays both the day of the week and the date. Zeppelin has its watches manufactured in Ruhla, Germany, and draws its inspiration from historic airships, the Zeppelins. In this model, that heritage is reflected in the traditional design and the mechanical movement.
Whilst wearing it, the movement of your wrist sets a rotor in motion. This winds the mainspring, which powers the mechanical movement. So you don’t need a battery. It is also possible to wind it via the crown, for example when you want to wear the watch again after a period of inactivity. When fully wound, it will run for approximately 42 hours without further movement. You can view the inner workings through the glass back. The 21 jewels reduce friction at key pivot points.
When planning an appointment or filling in a form, you don’t need to reach for your phone. Handy, isn’t it? The calendar shows you straight away what day and date it is. Bear in mind that this isn’t a perpetual calendar: after a month with fewer than 31 days, you’ll need to adjust the date yourself.
With a diameter of 40 mm and a case thickness of 12 mm, this is a relatively modest men’s model. The advantage is that you can wear it comfortably under long sleeves. The leather strap fastens with a buckle, allowing you to choose a closure position that suits your wrist size. K1 mineral glass protects the dial. It is water-resistant to 5 bar, but this means you’re actually better off not wearing it in the water. It is splash-proof, so a rain shower or washing your hands once in a while is no problem. It is best to keep the leather strap dry to keep it looking its best.
