If your Citizen radio controlled watch cannot connect to the transmission tower, there are a number of steps you can take to solve the problem. Here are some tips:
Make sure you are outside or near a window with an unobstructed view of the sky. Buildings, walls and other obstacles can block the signal.
Point the watch towards the nearest transmitter mast. In Europe, this is usually the DCF77 mast in Germany, in the US the WWVB mast in Colorado, and in Japan the JJY mast.
Radio signals are often received more strongly at night, especially between 00:00 and 04:00. Try resynchronising the watch then.
To receive the signal, the watch must have sufficient power. Most Citizen watches have a solar-powered Eco-Drive movement: it really needs to be sufficiently charged to receive the signal from the atomic clock and run normally. That charging takes much longer than you think (consult the watch's manual for more info).
A weak battery can hinder reception. If the watch gives a low battery signal, replace the battery or if you have an Eco-Drive: charge it sufficiently and try again.
Place the watch on a flat surface, such as a table by the window, and make sure it does not move during synchronisation.
Refer to your watch manual to find out how to manually start a sync. Usually, you either hold down a button or follow a specific procedure.
Make sure the watch is set to the correct time zone and that the receive function is enabled. Some watches have a mode to disable reception.
If you are in an area with a lot of interference (e.g. from electrical equipment or tall buildings), try a different location, such as an open field or a higher point.
Some modern watches require firmware updates to function optimally. Check the Citizen website to see if updates are available.
If none of these steps work, there may be a technical problem with the watch. Contact Citizen Customer Service or take the watch to an authorised service point. If you bought the watch from us, feel free to contact us.
Hopefully this will help to get your watch properly synchronised again!
